Scouting in Stourbridge, in the heart of the West Midlands, gives hundreds of young people the chance to build skills for life while having fun, making friends and exploring the outdoors together.

Who we are

Stourbridge District Scouts brings together Scout groups from across Stourbridge and the surrounding West Midlands area, from neighbourhoods close to the town centre through to nearby communities and villages. We are part of West Mercia Scouts and The Scout Association in the UK, delivering the national programme locally with a strong focus on outdoor adventure, community involvement and personal development.

There are eight Scout Groups in the Stourbridge area, supported by Explorer Scout Units and Scout Network, so there is something for everyone from age 6 through to adults who want to get involved. Our volunteers include leaders, supporters, skills instructors and trustees, all working together to make sure Scouting in Stourbridge is safe, welcoming and packed with opportunities.

Who can join

Young people can start their journey in Beavers (6–8), move on to Cubs (8–10½), Scouts (10½–14), then Explorers (14–18), with Scout Network offering opportunities for 18–25 year olds. Adult volunteers of all ages and backgrounds help run sections, support events, manage buildings and sit on trustee boards, so you do not need to have been a Scout before to get involved.

Across these sections, Stourbridge Scouts offers over 200 different activities and experiences, from camping and hillwalking through to creative projects, community action and international opportunities. Whether a young person wants to gain confidence, try adventurous activities or simply make new friends, there will be a group in or near Stourbridge that is right for them.

What we do

Week by week, our sections meet in local Scout headquarters, schools, church halls and community venues across Stourbridge to follow a balanced programme of activities. This includes outdoor skills, teamwork challenges, games and visits, all designed to help young people learn by doing and grow at their own pace.

Stourbridge Scouts makes full use of the fantastic outdoor spaces and activity centres available across the West Midlands, joining county and regional events as well as running our own camps and activity days. From a first night away under canvas to large-scale camps with Scouts from across the UK and beyond, adventure is a core part of what we offer.

Our purpose and values

Scouting in Stourbridge exists to actively engage and support young people in their personal development, empowering them to make a positive contribution to their local community and wider society. Through a programme shaped by young people and supported by adult volunteers, we help members develop skills such as teamwork, leadership, resilience and problem solving that will stay with them for life.

We are guided by the values of the UK Scout Association: Integrity, Respect, Care, Belief and Co‑operation. These values underpin everything we do in Stourbridge, from how we welcome new members to the way we support each other on activities and represent Scouting in our local area.

How we are run

Stourbridge District Scouts forms part of West Mercia Scout County, which supports Scouting across a wider area of the West Midlands. Within the District, each Scout Group and Explorer Unit has its own leadership team and trustee board, while a District team led by the District Lead Volunteer provide overall support and coordination.

Our trustee boards (previously called Executive Committees) make sure that Stourbridge Scouts is well managed, financially sound and compliant with charity law and the Policy, Organisation and Rules of The Scout Association. They oversee everything from buildings and equipment to safeguarding and safety, working closely with our volunteer leaders to ensure that local Scouting is safe, inclusive and sustainable.
